MEDIA ADVISORY: BOARD OF HEALTH TO MEET ON THURSDAY, MARCH 16, 2006

NEW YORK CITY - March 13, 2006 - Notice is hereby given that the Board of Health will hold a meeting on Thursday, March 16 at 10:00AM. The meeting will be held at 125 Worth Street, Third Floor Boardroom, in lower Manhattan. The agenda will be as follows:

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
  1. Approval of minutes of meeting held December 14, 2005.

NEW YORK CITY HEALTH CODE
  1. Resolution to amend subsection (a) of Section 11.03 of the New York City Health Code to require the reporting of neonatal herpes. Notice was published in the City Record of December 16, 2005. A public hearing was held on January 19, 2006. No one testified and four written comments were received.

  2. Resolution to amend Article 173 of the New York City Health Code. This amendment will make the law more effective by targeting prevention efforts to younger children who are most at risk for exposure to lead-based paint hazards. It will add a definition of the term “child of applicable age” in section 173.14 (b) to mean a child under six years of age , in accordance with §27-2056.18 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, and to amend the definition of a “chewable surface” to be applicable to children under six years of age. Notice was published in the City Record on December 16, 2005. A public hearing was held on January 16, 2006. No one testified and four written comments were received.

  3. Proposed resolution to amend subsection (a) of Section 11.03 of the New York City Health Code to add the following diseases/conditions to be reported to the Department: Glanders, Melioidosis, Staphyloccal enterotoxin B poisoning, and viral hemorrhagic fever.

  4. Proposed resolution to amend Article 47 with respect to nutritional standards, requirements for specific physical activity, and tuberculosis screening for day care staff.
