Most New Yorkers Drink Alcohol in Moderation or Not At All, but 15% Drink Excessively
While approximately one-third of New Yorkers drink alcohol moderately and half do not drink at all, 15% drink excessively, according to new data presented by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) in its most recent Vital Signs publication. Excessive use of alcohol can lead to chronic illnesses and may contribute to domestic violence, homicide, and suicide.

With Adequate Vaccine Available, the Health Department Recommends a Flu Shot for People Age 50 and Over Starting Immediately
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is now expanding flu shot eligibility to include people age 50 and older as long as supplies permit. Starting immediately, adults 50 and over and other groups (see complete listing below) will be able to get a flu shot from their medical provider or Health Department flu vaccination clinics.
