MEDIA ADVISORY: BOARD OF HEALTH TO MEET ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2005

NEW YORK CITY - December 9, 2005 - Notice is hereby given that the Board of Health will hold a meeting on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 10:00AM. The meeting will be held at 125 Worth Street, Third Floor Boardroom, in lower Manhattan. The agenda will be as follows:

  1. Approval of minutes of meeting held July 7, 2005

NEW YORK CITY HEALTH CODE

  1. Resolution to amend Article 13 of the New York City Health Code to require clinical laboratories to report A1C (levels of blood sugar for diabetes) test results to the Department. This will enable the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program to improve surveillance and target interventions to improve outcomes. Notice was published in the City Record on July 13, 2005. A public hearing was held on August 16, 2005. Ten individuals testified and thirty-one written comments were received.

  2. Resolution to amend Sections 11.03 and 11.64 of the New York City Health Code to remove current reportable diseases and conditions that are no longer of significant public health concern and designate certain diseases and conditions as reportable that have become of greater public health concern. Notice was published in the City Record on July 13, 2005. A public hearing was held on August 15, 2005. No one testified and no written comments were received.

  3. Proposed resolution to amend subsection (a) of Section 11.03 of the New York City Health Code to require the reporting of neonatal herpes.

  4. Proposed resolution to amend Article 173 of the New York City Health Code to add a definition of the term "child of applicable age" in section 173.14 (b) to mean a child under six years of age, in accordance with ยง27-2056.18 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, and to amend the definition of "chewable surface" to be applicable to children under six years of age.
