Research and Evaluation
The Research and Evaluation Unit is responsible for the analysis and dissemination of data to support the goals of BMIRH. The Unit draws on data from NYC Vital Statistics, the Community Health Survey (CHS), SPARCS (NYS hospital discharge data) and the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The Unit also conducts PRAMS (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System), a population based survey of new mothers in New York City.
The main activities of the Unit are:

Conducting data analyses on topics such as breastfeeding, preterm birth, infant mortality, chronic disease and pregnancy, and teen pregnancy.

Disseminating data on maternal, infant and reproductive health through trend charts, reports, briefs and presentations.

Conducting evaluations of major programs within the Bureau.

Convening research experts on important issues and developments in maternal, infant and reproductive health.
