Newborn Home Visit Program
The Newborn Home Visit Program is a joint effort of the DOHMH District Public Health Office and the BMIRH. The program attempts a single visit to first time parents living in neighborhoods with highest social, health and environmental needs. The goal of the program is to assist new mothers with the adjustment to parenthood, to assure that the infant is living in a safe environment, to provide topic-specific education, and to identify health and/or social issues that require referral with community-based services.
Initially, two communities are targeted: East/Central Harlem in Manhattan and Bushwick/Bedford Stuyvesant in Brooklyn
DPHO and BMIRH managers will work jointly to implement, monitor and evaluate the program. Home visitors will be BMIRH Public Health Advisors (PHAs) supervised by BMIRH administrators that report to the BMIRH Director of Community Initiatives.
