Move-to-Improve

Move-to-Improve, offered through the NYC Departments of Health and Education, is a comprehensive and engaging way to help teachers integrate physical activity into all areas of classroom academics. This initiative is funded in part by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant and City Council Funding.

 

Child Care & Pre-K Classrooms
children learning The Move-to-Improve Early Childhood Program is designed to help child care centers and preschools reach the NYC Health Code mandated 30 minutes of structured physical activity per day. For child care and pre-kindergarten staff, NYC DOHMH offers a one-day workshop that demonstrates developmentally appropriate activities that staff can use in small spaces to get children moving. Workshop participants receive:

 

Elementary School Program
teacher and studentThe Move-to-Improve Elementary School program is designed to help public schools reach the NYSED mandated 120 minutes per week of physical education instruction.

Kindergarten through Third Grade Teachers
For classroom teachers working with children in kindergarten through 3rd grade, NYC DOHMH, in partnership with the Department of Education, offers Move-to-Improve, a three-hour workshop on how to include physical activity into the daily classroom schedule. Workshop participants receive:
