2008 Summer Session

From: Health Research Training Program (HRTP)
The Health Research Training Program (HRTP) of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is pleased to announce its 2008 Summer Session. The program offers internships in public health research, community outreach and education, fieldwork, laboratory work and administration to all currently enrolled as matriculated undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in a degree program of accounting, computer science, environmental engineering, health education, laboratory sciences, mathematics, medicine, law, nursing, public administration, public health, public policy, social sciences, and social work.
HRTP is the largest program of its kind in the country providing experiential training in public health for students from diverse backgrounds. Over the past forty years, HRTP has placed more than 3,000 students in internships of value to the student and the Department of Health. The program has demonstrated its capacity for shaping career goals, advancing public health research and facilitating individual achievement.
The student participates in a project under the direct supervision of experienced public health professionals who are recognized experts and leaders in their fields of public health practice. Student projects are located at the Department or at hospitals, medical schools, and other health-related institutions. In addition, we introduce students to health issues confronting New York City and the world through weekly seminars.
HRTP offers several unique benefits for its students including career counseling, advocacy and evaluation, assistance with completion of certain academic and practicum requirements for various degree programs, and file retention and evaluation so the successful internship can be listed on résumés and given as a reference for meeting experience requirements.
Student financial support is provided primarily through the federal college work/study program. There are also limited award funds available to students who qualify on the basis of merit and need.
Your assistance in publicizing the opportunities and benefits of the Health Research Training Program is most appreciated. Thank you.
