Welcome to the NYC Epi Scholars Program
The NYC Epi Scholars program is a fully funded 10-12 week summer internships with a stipend of up to $6,000 for eight full-time students (Summer 2009). The program recruits bright and promising students who demonstrate a career interest in health disparities research. While advances and developments have been made in public health, health disparities between advantaged and disadvantaged communities persist. The DOHMH is committed to using research and innovative interventions to address health disparities. The NYC Epi Scholars Program is currently made possible through a generous grant from the Josiah H. Macy Foundation.
The program aims to train top epidemiology students at a leading local health department in the US, providing mentorship from DOHMH researchers. Scholars receive supplemental training in theory, methods, and public health practice to enhance their understanding of the root causes of health disparities. The research internship may be used for thesis requirements or serve as an opportunity to develop a publishable paper or report.
