Fund for Public Health in New York, Inc (FPHNY) : NYC DOHMH

Fund for Public Health in New York

What Does FPHNY Do?

New Approaches in Public Health

NYC is a leader in developing public health models in the areas of tuberculosis, disease surveillance and tobacco control. The Fund for Public Health in New York facilitates the development and pilot testing of new and innovative approaches to improving public health. Once the evidence is in, successful new strategies can be mainstreamed and brought to scale citywide.

Strengthening Health Services and Systems

Safeguarding the health of eight million plus New Yorkers is more complex in our post-9/11 world. The Fund for Public Health in New York partners with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to improve the capacity of hospitals and primary care providers to respond to public health emergencies and surges in the need for care as well as improving systems that allow for more efficient delivery and better access to health care, services and information.

Understanding and Informing Health Policy

NYC is a leader in community-based surveillance and in using data to drive evidence-based policy and allocate resources based on documented need. To support informed decision making and to strengthen programs and services aimed at disease prevention, the Fund for Public Health in New York supports projects that collect and disseminate timely health information and strengthen data collection systems.

Educating Communities and Building Constituencies

Public health efforts are most effective when there is strong community support.  The Fund for Public Health in New York implements projects that help the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene develop constituencies in new program areas and educate communities around complex health issues.
