In commemoration of World TB Day, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene , Bureau of Tuberculosis Control hosted the 2007 Annual TB Conference "TB Anywhere is TB Everywhere" held at the Graduate Center, CUNY in midtown. The conference was well attended by more than 300 medical providers, infection control practitioners and community leaders.

This year's conference addressed some of the ongoing challenges in TB control and prevention in NYC, including the implications of the changing epidemiology of TB, challenges of responding to the threat of highly drug resistant TB, the patterns and effects of ongoing TB transmission, updated infection control strategies used to prevent TB transmission in health-care settings and the Health Department's implementation of the QuantiFERON® TB-Gold Test. The conference also focused on cultural competence in TB care and explored the compelling true story of how TB changed one woman's life.

World TB Day 2007
World Tuberculosis Day, held annually on 24 March, commemorates the date in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch presented his discovery of the TB bacillus to a group of doctors in Berlin.

The theme for World TB Day 2007 is "TB anywhere is TB everywhere." The theme conveys a message of urgency and shared responsibility, and contains supporting messages that focus on the importance of increased investment, stronger community involvement, strengthened research and development, and action against the threat of extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB) and HIV-related TB.

On 24 March 2007, people from all over the globe will be taking part in the World TB Day campaign and the Health Department encourages you to join us in this effort by planning events in your community. For more information on the 2007 World TB Day theme, and to access upcoming campaign planning information and resources visit the World TB Day section of the Stop TB Partnership or CDC website: or
