Instructions for downloading Acrobat Reader program

The document you have selected is provided in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. There are two ways to view this document 1) requires you, the user, to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which you need only do once, or 2) access Adobe's PDF conversion tool.

Some of you already have version 3.0 of the Adobe Acrobat reader on your computer: you need Version 4.0 or later to read many of our documents. If you get an error when trying to bring up a PDF file, open up the Adobe Acrobat Reader program and look at the version number on the opening screen to see the version number.

1. Please download Version 5.0 of the Reader now.

If you are using Netscape 4 or earlier, you will need to modify your browser. In the navigation bar (the wording below the blue bar at top):

Select Options
Select General Preferences
Scroll down the list and highlight "application/pdf"
Go down and select the button for "unknown: prompt user"
Close Netscape and go in again.

Remember that, if you upgrade your browser to a later version, you will need to modify the upgraded browser. VERY IMPORTANT: Most of the PDF documents on NYC.gov require you to have version 4.0 of the Acrobat Reader to access them. This allows you to search the documents.

2. If you are having difficulty in downloading the Acrobat Reader, Adobe offers a free HTML (simple text) conversion process. Simply go to http://access.adobe.com/simple_form.html and enter the URL to the PDF document. The PDF document will instantly be converted to an HTML document viewable through your browser—no plug-in needed. The process is quick and easy, and you'll be amazed at the results! This process is NOT recommended for forms or charts.
