New York City Viral Hepatitis Task Forces
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is committed to supporting local efforts to prevent and manage hepatitis C (HCV) infection. In order to enhance early detection, prevention and medical care for HCV infection locally, the Office of Viral Hepatitis Coordination has established a network of hepatitis C focused task forces in areas of New York City most in need of services. This initiative began in May 2004 with the creation of the South Bronx Hepatitis C Task Force, continued in 2006 with the Brooklyn Hepatitis C Task Force, and most recently added Hepatitis C Task Force in Queens in May 2008.
About the Task Forces
The Hepatitis C Task Forces are action based coalitions committed to identifying and improving access to quality HCV services in NYC. The task forces are comprised of a diverse group of community members, including medical and social service providers and consumers who represent community-based organizations, harm reduction programs, drug treatment programs, hospitals and clinics. The task forces are guidedby a Citywide Steering Committee consisting of key health providers and health advocates as well as DOHMH staff. The steering committee meets regularly to offer guidance, advice, and expertise on the development of the task force projects.
