Healthy Hospital Food Initiative

The Healthy Hospital Food Initiative is a new effort by the City’s Health Department to promote healthy eating and help prevent chronic diseases. Hospitals throughout the City are adopting the New York City Food Standards, healthy food policies which give hospital employees, patients, and visitors increased access to better food choices.

NYC Food Standards

Hospitals work with the Health Department to achieve a healthier hospital food environment by using the NYC Food Standards. The Standards include specific nutrient requirements for individual foods, meals, and daily intake. Please see below for details on Standards for Patient Meals, Beverage and Food Vending Machines, and Cafeterias.
