The National Incident Management System (NIMS)
In 2004, the Department of Homeland Security released the National Incident
Management System (NIMS), as required by Homeland Security Presidential
Directive (HSPD) 5 - Management of Domestic Incidents, and HSPD 8 -
Preparedness. NIMS was developed as a means for responders from different
jurisdictions and disciplines to better work together during the
response to natural disasters and emergencies, including acts of terrorism.
NIMS benefits include a unified approach to incident management; standard
command and management structures; and an emphasis on preparedness, mutual aid
and resource management.

Infection Control Challenges and Solutions in Pediatric Long-Term Care
Facilities Conference
NYC DOHMH together with the NYSDOH jointly organized a conference to discuss
infection control challenges and potential solutions for pediatric long-term
care facilities. The conference was held on June 1, 2010 at the NYSDOH
conference facility in Manhattan. The target audience for this conference
included each facility's medical director, other key physicians, infection
control practitioner, the Director of Nursing, and the Admistrator as all of
these individuals are required for an effective infection control program within
a facility. Presentations from the conference are available here.
