What is the Asthma Training Institute?
The Asthma Training Institute (ATI) is a project of the New York City Asthma Initiative. ATI works to strengthen the delivery of asthma education in New York City by developing effective training strategies, promoting consistent messages, building communication skills, and respecting cultural and language diversity. ATI’s training approach is based on the principles of adult learning.
ATI’s goal is to increase the asthma knowledge and skills of health care providers, staff of community based organizations, schools and day care centers, and community members so that they can work more effectively with individuals, families and communities affected by asthma. The institute builds capacity for community asthma education and awareness, provides tools and resources for health educators, and models for asthma workshops for diverse audiences.
What does the Asthma Training Institute offer?
The ATI offers a calendar of asthma workshops that cover key areas of knowledge and skills. Special workshops are also offered that address best practices, emerging concerns and current knowledge on a variety of asthma-related topics.
In addition to course offerings, the ATI works individually with community-based organizations and city agencies to support their asthma related training needs. ATI provides field-based workshops, train-the-trainer courses, technical assistance, and referrals.
