Report of the NYC Commission on HIV/AIDS

New York City is at a critical point in how we address the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Although we have made great progress, much more needs to be done. Too many people continue to get infected, become sick, and die from HIV-related illness. About 1,000 people each year – 3 people every day – first learn they are HIV-positive at the time they receive an AIDS diagnosis, up to a decade after becoming infected. We must do better.

Our goal is to drastically reduce the spread of HIV, significantly improve control of the epidemic in New York City, and provide the highest quality medical care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS. The NYC Commission on HIV/AIDS has made recommendations that, if implemented, will accomplish this.

HIV and AIDS affect all of us, and each one of us can make a difference. We are making the Commission report public at the draft stage to get input from as many people as possible. Community input will be critically important as we continue to develop, refine, and implement our strategies to stop the epidemic.

We welcome all comments on the report and its recommendations, and want to hear your thoughts on how we can make New York City a national and global model for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care. You can submit any comments you have through our online form.
