Active Laboratory Surveillance

The Health Department actively solicits data on influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) test results from NYC laboratory facilities that are licensed to perform such testing, and from selected clinicians in the community who collect samples from patients with influenza-like illness. During the week of Jan 22 – 28, 2012, approximately 1.8% of specimens tested were positive for influenza and 18% of tested specimens were positive for RSV.
