Serving Process
Whenever court papers must be delivered to advise a defendant of his or her required presence at a legal proceeding (a summons or a subpoena) or a decision of the court, the Sheriff often serves these papers. Family Court actions involve process serving done by the Sheriff.
Enforcing Judgments & Court Orders to Obtain Property
When a court case results in a judgment, one of the parties may require assistance collecting the money or property that he or she has been awarded.
Small Claims Court
Assistance in collecting money awarded in Small Claims Court.
Evictions
The Sheriff's Division can handle evictions that involve a court order.
Towing Vehicles
Although the parties do not appear in court, Finance must obtain a judgment against vehicle owners who have not paid parking fines after 100 days. The Sheriff's Division then enforces these court judgments by seizing (towing) the vehicles of those owners who have a minimum of $350 of unpaid judgment parking debt.

Making Arrests
The Sheriff is authorized to make a variety of different types of civil arrests at the order of the court, such as for contempt of court or under the provisions of Kendra's Law.
