Obtain a Copy of Your Filed Return
Only the taxpayer or their authorized representative may request a copy of a filed tax return.

There is a fee of $1 per page. The return will only be mailed to the business address on file.

Mail request to:

Accounts Examination Unit

New York, NY 10038

Please include the following information:

  • Name of business,
  • Tax identification number (EIN or SSN),
  • Tax type,
  • Tax year or period, and
  • Contact name and telephone number. 

Authorized Representatives: A representative must submit a signed Power of Attorney form from the taxpayer with a request for a return(s).

Register a New Business with New York State

• To conduct business within NY State you must register with the NY Secretary of State or local County Clerk.
• Partnerships must register with the County Clerk's Office where the business is located.
• A sole proprietorship under a name other than your own, such as trade or assumed names (referred to as D.B.A., or "doing business as"), must register with the County Clerk's Office where the business is located.
• Corporations must register with the Secretary of State, Department of State, in Albany.

Federal Employer ID Number (EIN) 
Federal law requires corporations, partnerships, and certain sole proprietorships to have an Employer/Taxpayer Identification Number, or EIN.

The EIN can be used to conduct business in New York City. No additional identifying number is required.

To apply for an Employer Identification Number, use Federal Form SS-4.
