Change to Meter Law: Local Law 59 of 2008
Mayor Bloomberg signed legislation allowing motorists to
park at broken or missing meters for the maximum time permitted at
that meter. Previously the law only allowed vehicles to be parked at
broken meters for a maximum of one hour. If a broken or missing meter is discovered, motorists
are encouraged to call 311. The law signed on December 1, 2008 took
effect on March 1, 2009.
