| Effective March 15, 2005, attorneys who possess a Unified Court System Attorney Secure Pass no longer need to obtain a separate DOC attorney pass to gain admission to Department facilities. Attorney Pass
The New York City Department of Correction issues three-year Photo Identification Attorney Passes and one-year Photo Identification Passes for Legal Assistants and Investigators for admission to all New York City Department of Correction facilities to confer with inmate clients.
To apply for the three-year pass, the applicant must submit a completed application form (in pdf) and two pieces of identification. If attorneys are not registered with the NYS Office of Court Administration, they must submit a copy their Certificate of Good Standing from the Appellate Division or a copy of Bar Admission Certificate. Attorneys will receive their pass on the day of application.
For pass renewals, two pieces of identification and the old pass must be submitted.
Note: Passport photos are no longer required. Digital photos will be taken by the Applicant Investigation Unit on site.
Legal Assistant or Investigator Pass
Legal Assistants and Investigators can apply for photo identification passes valid for one-year. Applicant must submit a completed application form (in pdf) two pieces of identification and a letter from employer stating applicant's title, duties, and reason for pass. Legal Assistants and Investigators will receive their pass after review by the Department's Investigation Division. Upon approval, applicants will be notified to pick up the pass.
For renewals, two pieces of identification, the old pass, and a new letter from the employer is required.

Appropriate Forms of Identification
Must contain a photograph, address, or signature. Driver's license, passport, voter registration card, or OCA attorney identification are accepted. Credit cards and social security cards are not accepted.

Completed applications must be hand delivered to the Applicant Investigation Unit, New York City Department of Correction, 17 Battery Place, and 4th floor. All applicants must appear there in person to sign for and pick up passes, under the following schedule:
Monday and Wednesday - 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday - 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
Report Lost or Stolen Pass
Notify the Applicant Investigation Unit as soon as possible at (212) 487-7483 between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. The loss must also be reported to the nearest Police Precinct. The Department of Correction must be provided with the Incident Report issued by the Police Department.
