STATEMENT FROM ACTING BUILDINGS COMMISSIONER ROBERT LIMANDRI ON NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR
SAFETY STRAP SYSTEMS
"Safety straps embedded in concrete ceilings on high-rise job sites are meant to protect workers who operate near the edge of open floors, and these safety straps are only effective when they are properly installed. Today we are announcing new safety requirements for contractors to protect their workers with reliable safety strap systems on concrete high-rise buildings. The new requirements will help limit the possibility of workers falling when they take the time to fasten themselves to these safety straps. I recently announced an unprecedented $4 million investment to conduct an in-depth assessment of high-risk construction activities, and concrete operations were at the top of the list. As we proceed with this assessment, we will continue to take immediate action as we identify ways for the City and the industry to make construction safer."
