Course Approval & Submittal Process after February 28, 2015

On February 28, 2015, course provider applicants must provide proof of accreditation as specified in 1 RCNY 105-03 in order to meet the requirements for Department-approved courses (as extended by Executive Order # 21/14).

To be a provider of a Department approved course, you must electronically submit the following 2 items in an e-mail to

Item 1)  Documentation proving your organization is one of the following:

  • Approved by the NYS Department of Education such as through a registered New York State Department of Labor vocational, trade or apprenticeship program or

  • Licensed as an educational institution by the NYS Department of Education; or

  • Accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education; or

  • Certified by an accrediting organization recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a Standards Developing Organization with published standards for continuing education and training. IACET is currently the only organization that is accredited by ANSI as a published standard for continuing education and training.

Item 2)  A completed and notarized Course Approval Application

  • Complete the Course Approval Application (PDF)

  • Print and notarize the completed Course Approval Application

  • scan & save the notarized Course Approval Application in PDF

Course Submittal E-mail Instructions for Item 1 and Item 2:

  1. Attach Item 1 and Item 2 in a Portable Document Format (PDF) file to

  2. Indicate your company name in the subject line and a contact and phone number in the body of the e-mail.


  • The Department will not process applications that are incomplete or missing accompanying documents or have been tampered with or altered.

  • If the submittal is successfully received, you will receive a reply that “Your course submission email has been received”. If, at a later date, we are unable to process it or have questions, we will contact by email.

  • If you do not receive a reply within one month of submittal recheck the email address you provided on your application and, resend the submittal to and/or contact Buildings University at 212.393.2167.

  • Applications delivered by individuals to the Department will not be accepted.

Applicants who successfully complete the application process will be listed on the DOB website as course providers for the Department of Buildings.
