The urbanSHED International Design Competition challenged competitors to re-think the current sidewalk shed - while meeting or surpassing today’s safety, sustainability and viability requirements. They also had to comply with all applicable laws, including Chapter 33 of the New York City Building Code. In addition, the winning design had to be a clear, inventive and compelling shed concept that satisfies the needs mentioned above for a contemporary sidewalk shed design.
The winning design was, “Urban Umbrella,” created by Andres Cortes, RA; Sarrah Khan, PE; and Young-Hwan Choi. Click on the link below to view the design.
