Testing Of Gas Pressure

Purpose:

To permit the testing of gas pressure using gauges other than mercury gauges in order to reduce the potential hazard posed by equipment containing mercury.

Specifics:

Conversion Factor: A pressure of six (6) inches (15.24 cm) of mercury is equivalent to 3 psig (20.68 kPa).

Requirements: A gas pressure of 3 psig (20.68 kPa) taken using a spring or digital gauge for a minimum of 30 minutes is equivalent to a gas pressure of six (6) inches (15.24 cm) of mercury taken using a mercury gauge for a minimum of 30 minutes.

The appropriate reading may be taken using a mercury, spring, or digital gauge.
