2. Non-Metallic Faucet Components
3. Reinforced Flexible Water Connectors

Purpose:

To permit the use of (a) non-metallic components within faucets, and (b) non-metallic connectors as part of the plumbing fixture and to designate the standards by which the connectors shall be tested prior to acceptance for use in New York City.

1. IAPMO PS 74-95 REINFORCED FLEXIBLE WATER CONNECTORS. This standard covers physical and performance requirements for materials, threads, connections, working pressure and impulse life requirements, performance tests and marking & identification;
2. IAPMO PS 48-92 MATERIAL SAFETY DATA VERIFICATION FOR PLUMBING PRODUCTS. This standard covers the requirements for reporting material safety data and information on toxicity for materials incorporated in faucets, valves, backflow prevention devices and similar devices intended by the manufacturer for potable water uses.

Background:

1. The materials for faucets are referred to in Reference Standard RS-16, §P102.4(e)(14) Miscellaneous, which states that "internal and external parts of faucets, valves, ballcocks, etc. may be made with plastics meeting the criteria of this reference standard."
   1. (1)The water supply system consists of the water-service piping, the water-distribution piping, and the necessary connecting pipes, fittings, control valves, and all appurtenances used for conveying water. The water distribution piping is the piping that conveys water from the water service pipe to the plumbing fixtures and other water outlets. The water outlet is the discharge opening for the water to a fixture.
   2. (2)It is the determination of this Department that a plumbing fixture may include, as an integral part, an approved flexible connector.

Specifics:

1. Internal and External Parts of Faucets.

   Non-metallic materials which are an integral part of a faucet may be used in New York City, provided they comply with:

   (1) IAPMO PS 48-92 for toxicity limitations.

   The manufacturer shall clearly and visibly note such compliance on the product and in the accompanying specifications for the model being installed.
