30 Clients Graduate From Work Advantage Financial Education Classes
Some DHS clients now are better equipped to manage their personal finances after graduating from the inaugural Work Advantage financial education classes. 30 graduates were taught by the non-profit organization Credit Where Credit is Due, learning about the basics of budgeting, saving and credit in a five week intensive course, especially designed to meet the needs of Work Advantage participants. Graduates completed individual financial plans, reviewed their own credit report and qualified for one-on-one financial counseling. Courses were held at HELPUSA HomeBase in the Bronx, and Pamoja House and Liberty/Junius in Brooklyn.
Commissioner Hess stopped by the graduation at HELPUSA to offer his congratulations. Participants shared what they had learned and how they are going to utilize their new skills. "After hearing clients talk about their newfound knowledge of handling their finances, I am very confident they will continue to improve their financial standing," Commissioner Hess said. "These skills are among the most important needed to enjoy secure and independent living."
