Bill Payer Volunteer

Managing the monthly bills can be overwhelming and cumbersome for anyone. For a senior who may have no one who can assist, when bills are left unpaid and piling up, life can have serious consequences. Bill Payer volunteers help seniors balance checkbooks and pay bills, playing a vital role in helping them to continue to live independently at home.

Tasks:

  • Work with a senior to help manage monthly bills, prepare checks and balance his or her checkbook
  • Review bank statements
  • Compile a detailed monthly report of your activities

Requirements:

  • Strong organization skills and detail-oriented
  • Possess compassion, patience and empathy for older adults
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information
  • Submit DFTA Volunteer Timesheet(s) for service provided

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to speak languages other than English desired, but not required

Training:

  • General training on working with senior clients and money management will be provided

Time Commitment:

  • Volunteers serve monthly, for approximately 4 hours
  • Flexible schedule allows for a mutually convenient time for the volunteer and client to meet
  • Minimum one year commitment strongly requested
