Modernizing Senior Centers
The Department oversees more than 300 senior centers citywide. Currently, only two percent of the City's 1.3 million seniors actually attend a senior center on a given day. The Department's modernization of senior services will aim to adopt a more comprehensive health and wellness approach to senior centers in an effort to engage a greater percentage and age-range of the senior population.
On December 19, 2008 the RFP for Congregate Programs for Older Adults was withdrawn. With the appointment of Commissioner Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, a new collaborative, community-driven senior center modernization process will begin.
