Big Apple Senior Strollers

The Big Apple Senior Strollers walking clubs continue to log in millions and millions of steps! The grand total for 2010 was 93,168,615 steps to be exact!

This year we are instituting the Three Step Program. We will be honoring three clubs from each borough. Here’s how your club can qualify for each level.

Step One- The one club in each borough that comes closest to 100,000 steps without going over that goal will receive an award.

Step Two- The one club in each borough that comes closest to 500,000 steps without going over that goal will receive an award.

Step Three- The one club in each borough that exceeds 1,000,000 steps by the greatest margin will receive an award..

Furthermore, all active clubs will receive a certificate marking their level of achievement.

The 2011 campaign begins Monday, April 4th. Walking is an easy and fun way to stay fit, especially when you walk with friends. The Big Apple Senior Strollers walking clubs offer a great opportunity to enjoy the benefits of walking, and the company of friends.

These walking clubs are active in a variety of facilities that provide services to seniors throughout New York City. Every Big Apple Senior Stroller can help their club meet its target and improve his or her physical fitness by gradually increasing the number of steps that they take whenever their club is out walking. Each member of a club uses a pedometer to count their steps and their individual totals contribute to their club’s goal.

To find a walking club near you, select your borough to see a roster of walking clubs in your neighborhood. You must be a member of a senior center before you can join its club. Please check with your doctor before joining a club.
