The Department for the Aging (DFTA) offers free educational presentations, trainings, consultation services and talks on a variety of topics, as detailed below. Outreach staff is also available to attend commuity fairs and other public forums.

Benefits and Entitlements

Alzheimer's Disease, Caregiving and Long-Term Care
To request an information session for seniors, professionals or caregivers on Alzheimer's disease, long-term care options and caregiving issues, call (212) 442-3087. Trainings are available in English, Spanish, Russian and Cantonese.
Chronic Disease Self-Management Program
To request training to co-lead six-week workshops for NORC residents, senior housing residents or senior center participants on the evidence-based Chronic Disease Self-Management Program developed by Stanford University, call (212) 602-4307. Workshop versions are available in English and Spanish at this time.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
DFTA's Grandparent Resource Center (GRC) makes presentations to community groups on GRC and DFTA services and other pertinent topics as requested. The Center will also train organizations, professionals and caregivers to start a grandparent caregiver support group. Training is available in English, Spanish and Russian. Call (212) 602-4297.

Senior Health Insurance Information
DFTA's HIICAP Unit (Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program) is available to educate seniors and other interested groups on Medicare, changes to Medicare, coverage for preventive screening, the new Affordable Care Act, medicare fraud and other topics.
