The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is tasked with protecting human health and the environment, by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress, such as the Clean Air Act of 1970, the Clean Water Act of 1972, and the Safe Water Drinking Act of 1974.
