Notice of a Public Workshop Concerning the Jamaica Bay Watershed Protection Plan
Commissioner Emily Lloyd announced that a public workshop will be convened to discuss the prioritization of potential management strategies for the Jamaica Bay Watershed Protection Plan (WPP). In accordance with Local Law 71 passed by the New York City Council, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) is in the process of developing a Watershed Protection Plan for Jamaica Bay. Its purpose is to create a plan to restore and maintain the water quality and ecological integrity of Jamaica Bay.
As a part of the development of this plan a 2nd Public Workshop will be held on June 21, 2007. This Workshop will focus on:
- Prioritization of management strategies in the following areas:
- Water Quality
- Restoration Ecology
- Public Use and Enjoyment
- Land Use and Development
- Education and Outreach
- Watershed Stewardship: What can you do to make an impact?

By Car: From Manhattan and Staten Island: Belt Pkwy eastbound to Exit 8A (Coney Island Ave.). Cross Coney Island Ave. and continue along Guider Ave. to the traffic light. Turn right onto E. 12th St. Turn left onto Neptune Ave. at the traffic light. Turn right at traffic light onto Cass Pl. Turn right onto West End Ave. Turn left at second traffic light onto Oriental Blvd. From Queens and Nassau: Belt Pkwy westbound to Exit 8A (Coney Island Ave.). Turn right onto Voorhies Ave. Turn right at second traffic light to Sheepshead Bay Rd. At third traffic light turn right onto Emmons Ave. At second traffic light turn left onto West End Ave. Turn left at the third traffic light onto Oriental Blvd.
By Subway: F Line: Take the F Line to the Ave. X Station; transfer to the eastbound B1 to KCC; N Line: Take the N Line to the Bay Parkway / 86th St. Station; transfer to the eastbound B1 to KCC; Q or B lines: Take the Q or B Line to the Brighton Beach Station; transfer to the eastbound B1 to KCC or to the Sheepshead Bay Station; transfer to the B49 to KCC; D Line: Take the D Line to the 25th Ave. Station; transfer to the eastbound B1 to KCC.
By Bus: Take B1 or B49 to the last stop, Oriental Blvd. and Mackenzie St., then walk east on Oriental Blvd., which leads directly to the entrance of KCC.
