Notice of Rescheduled Public Hearing to Receive Comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Proposed Catskill/Delaware Ultraviolet Light Disinfection Facility Project CEQR No. 04DEP050U

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) proposes to design, construct, and place into operation an Ultraviolet Light (UV) Disinfection Facility (“UV Facility”) for the Catskill/Delaware Water Supply System. The project is being proposed to meet the water supply needs of the City of New York (City) and lower Westchester County and to comply with state and federal drinking water standards. The introduction of this additional disinfection “barrier” would significantly enhance the City’s water supply protection program. The UV Facility would be constructed on City-owned property at Eastview within the Towns of Mount Pleasant and Greenburgh, in Westchester County, New York.

The NYCDEP intends to hold a public hearing to receive public comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS) for the proposed UV Facility project. The Draft EIS was released publicly on May 31, 2004 and is available for review at repositories in all involved localities and on CD-ROM, upon written request. The Draft EIS Notice of Completion with Executive Summary may be reviewed on the NYCDEP website at http://www.nyc.gov/dep.

The public hearing scheduled for September 20, 2004 has been rescheduled as follows:

Wednesday, September 22, 2004
7:00 PM
Town Hall of Mount Pleasant (Court Room)
One Town Hall Plaza
Valhalla, New York

Additional information regarding the meeting, the locations of the eight repositories (which contain the Draft EIS and other related documents for public review) are listed on the NYCDEP website. To obtain a CD-ROM of the Draft EIS write to the contact person presented below.

The public comment period will remain open until October 4, 2004. Written comments should be addressed to: Mark Page, Jr., EIS Project Manager, Office of Environmental Planning and Assessment, 11th Floor, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, 59-17 Junction Boulevard, Flushing, New York, 11373.
