New York City To Issue Hunting Permits For Newly Accessible Water Supply Lands
The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) plans to
open several parcels of water supply lands to deer hunting this season. New
parcels being opened for hunting include 2,200 acres in Delaware County, over
500 acres in Ulster County, and some 600 acres in Putnam County. Details
about the actual properties will be announced in early October.
Additionally, DEP will continue to make over 10,000 acres at the Cannonsville
Reservoir available to hunters, as it has for the last 23 years. For the
first time ever, deer season on City lands will be extended an additional
week to include the "muzzle loading" season.
Hunters interested in hunting on the newly opened lands must apply for a
DEP permit, have a valid New York State Hunting License, and agree to adhere
to conditions and rules for hunting on water supply lands. Maps of
properties open for hunting will be sent to applicants with their permits.
Permits will not be required at the Cannonsville Reservoir area in 1999, but
will be in 2000. Hunting permits are free of charge.
Applications for DEP's hunting permits will be mailed when to hunters who
write or phone:
