Statement of Deputy Commissioner Paul Rush Urging Recreational Users to Exercise Caution on City Lands and Observe Temporary Closures

“Due to dangerous conditions caused by Hurricane Sandy, we are urging recreational users on all New York City water supply lands to use extreme caution. The best course of action at this time is to stay away from areas that appear to have suffered damage or look dangerous. DEP staff are conducting rapid assessments and temporarily closing areas that are unsafe. Red and white signs will be posted for areas that have been temporarily closed. Entering areas that are marked closed will be considered trespassing. East of Hudson lands were particularly hard hit, especially those areas with boat storage. A list of areas that have been temporarily closed is available at www.nyc.gov/dep.”
