Women's History Month – Maureen J. Mair
Maureen J. Mair’s advice to future generations is simple, but important: “complete your education and take full advantage of the opportunities that come your way.” Born in London, England, Maureen came to the United States at the age of nine. She graduated from Springfield Gardens High School where she enjoyed volleyball and softball and excelled academically. Upon graduation, she attended Queen’s College, SUNY where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
A year after graduating, Maureen began working for DEP in a clerical role, and is now Revenue Manager in the Accounts Management Unit of the Environmental Control Board. In this capacity, she coordinates with the Department of Finance to pursue the City’s highest debtors and recoup important water account revenues.
Maureen considers her grandmother, who always encouraged persistent faith even in times of hardship, to be her greatest influence. Maureen echoes this advice, noting that “adversity is a great teacher and prepares one for all of life’s challenges.”
