Results of Air and Bulk Samples Conducted by DEP

The following tables reflect the results of air samples and bulk samples for asbestos collected to date by DEP at various locations in the vicinity of the steam pipe explosion which occurred on July 18, 2007, on 41st Street in Manhattan.

The date and locations noted reflect the dates and locations where samples were collected.

Bulk sample testing has been completed. Air sample testing is ongoing and will be updated as results become available.

To date, all air samples collected by DEP have tested negative for asbestos. Of the bulk samples collected by DEP to date, 30 tested positive for asbestos, with 28 of those 30 positive tests showing trace amounts. The remaining 49 bulk samples showed no asbestos.
