Practices
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2 and EPA’s national Design for the Environment (DfE) program* will be conducting two free workshops in May 2009 for the NYC auto collision industry. Presenters will include U.S. EPA, an experienced painter, a certified industrial hygienist and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP). Training certificates will be issued by EPA. Topics will include:
- New U.S. EPA regulation for auto collision shops
- Key chemicals of concern and exposures
- Best practices during spray painting, paint mixing,
prep and clean up
- Breathing easy in the paint mixing room
- Health & safety in the shop (e.g., respirators
& other protective equipment)
- Resources/Tools

*EPA’s Design for the Environment (DfE) program has been working in partnership with the collision repair industry since 1997. The program encourages best practices and cost-effective technologies that reduce exposure and environmental release of toxic chemicals during spray painting and related activities.
