Dewatering

Approval to Discharge into Sewers (Dewatering)

Discharges exceeding 10,000 gallons of groundwater per day into City sewers require prior approval from DEP. This document provides a description of the process and associated forms for obtaining approval to discharge and, subsequently, a dewatering permit. Discharges to sanitary and combined sewers are subject to approval by the DEP Bureau of Wastewater Treatment. Discharges to storm sewers must be approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation prior to applying for approval with DEP.

Wastewater Quality Control Applications

Businesses that need to discharge to the City's sewer system must comply with the Sewer Use Regulations established in Title 15 of the Rules of the City of New York Chapter 19.
