The Croton Water Filtration Plant Project

Minor Modification to the Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement

Since the publication of the Final SEIS, NYCDEP has updated the design and construction plans for activities proposed under Contracts CRO-313 and CRO-312OS. NYCDEP evaluated these changes in a Minor Modification to the Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. The purpose of this environmental analysis is to review the proposed project revisions for their potential to result in significant adverse environmental impacts. This analysis demonstrates that these proposed project revisions would not result in any new or previously undisclosed significant adverse impacts on the environment.

Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement

The federal government has ordered New York City to build a filtration plant for its Croton water supply. There are 3 potential sites that were considered, one of which is the Mosholu Golf Course, located in Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx County. The City secured passage of State legislation—Chapter 175 of the Laws of 2003—authorizing use of the Mosholu Golf Course site for construction of the filtration plant, subject to certain conditions, including preparation of a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS). Pursuant to the federal government’s order, and in compliance with the State legislation, the SEIS has been completed and has identified Mosholu Golf Course as the preferred site for the filtration plant.

Paper copies of the full document along with the appendices can be examined at any of the repositories listed below. Paper copies of the document will not be distributed because the document is very voluminous, but electronic versions of the full final SEIS on CD (in pdf format) are available upon request. The Notice of Completion, Executive Summary and full SEIS are available.

Requests for a CD should be addressed in writing to: Mark Page Jr, EIS Project Manager, Office of Environmental Planning and Assessment, 11th Floor, New York City Department of Environmental Protection, 59-17 Junction Boulevard, Flushing, New York 11373.
