New Croton Dam Road Closure Environmental Review

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection is pleased to announce the release of the Lead Agency Declaration, the Notice of Intent to Conduct an Environmental Review, and the Environmental Assessment Form for the New Croton Dam Road Closure.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection proposes to permanently close Croton Dam Road on the crest of the New Croton Dam in the Town of Cortlandt, Westchester County as a result of security concerns related to vehicles crossing the New Croton Dam following the events of September 11th, 2001. Pedestrian and emergency vehicle traffic would be permitted to utilize the roadway; all other traffic would be permanently rerouted to the surrounding road network. The New Croton Dam is a critical component of the New York City Water Supply System and its protection is crucial to the continued use of the System.
