Living Harbor Wet Lab

As part of its New York City Harbor Survey Program, DEP helped create the Living Harbor Wet Lab aboard the South Street Seaport’s schooner Peking. The lab provides young people and adults with a place to learn about New York Harbor and its fascinating marine ecology.

The Living Harbor Wet Lab serves as a hands-on classroom, allowing students to work with live, indigenous, marine organisms and monitor harbor water quality. The Wet Lab features informational displays and other educational resources as well as a wireless connection with DEP’s water quality monitoring vessel that allows students to view and work with real-time water quality data.
