Visitor Center at Newtown Creek FAQs

If I am an individual, can I take a tour of the Digester Eggs at the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment plant?

We have monthly tours of the Digester Eggs for the general public and school groups.  As an individual you can reserve a spot on one of these tours by emailing events@dep.nyc.gov.  Please check the Visitor Center calendar for the next scheduled tour.  Due to the popularity of these tours and the limited space, we highly recommend reserving a spot in advance.

Can school groups take tours of the Digester Eggs at the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment plant?

We highly recommend that school groups fill out an Education Outreach Request Form before requesting a tour of the Digester Eggs.  Although we do not want to discourage school groups from taking a tour, we want to ensure the groups get the best and most informative experience.

Why can I only take a tour of the Digester Eggs and not the whole Wastewater Treatment Plant facility?

The Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant is a fascinating site that is home to the one of the largest construction sites in New York City. Because of the potentially hazardous nature of the work site and the fact that this is a fully operational plant that is treating more than 310 million gallons per day of wastewater, we want to ensure the public’s safety by limiting access to the site while maximizing the experience with the most interesting aspect of the plant, the Digester Eggs.
