New York City’s Water Story:
From Mountain Top to Tap
New York City’s Water Story: From Mountain Top to Tap, a new map, has been created to help students explore the New York City Water Supply System and discover how the water cycle affects their everyday lives. Maps are also tools for finding our way. Students can locate places and natural and human-made landscapes within the watersheds and New York City that relate to their study of water; they can examine and compare different features by exploring their physical and cultural characteristics and discuss how they function in our interdependent world.
The map was designed to complement multi-disciplinary lessons. It can foster an understanding of the geography of the region during past times and how today it has played important roles in the life cycle of people, their ideas, and living environments.
A supplemental Map Resource Guide for Teachers has also been created to help uncover New York Water’s special places and resource treasures.
