This memorial plaza, located at St. Nicholas Boulevard and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, pays tribute to Harriet Tubman. Tubman was crucial to the success of the Underground Railroad, which secretly moved southern slaves to freedom in the north. The centerpiece of the plaza is a 15-foot bronze sculpture of the activist sitting atop a granite base. The plaza also contains plantings native to New York and Tubman's home state of Maryland.
