Harlem/Morningside Heights Transportation Study, 2005

Overview:
Harlem/Morningside Heights Transportation StudyThe Harlem/Morningside Heights Transportation Study is a collaborative effort of the New York City Departments of Transportation and City Planning in response to community concerns about development trends, increased congestion and changes in neighborhood character.  The purpose of the study is to assess current and future land use development and transportation needs of the Harlem/Morningside Heights area.  The study investigates land use, zoning, demographics and other factors that influence traffic and transportation.  It seeks to provide effective solutions to the problems identified and to improve mobility, circulation and safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the study area.

The Draft Technical Memorandum No.1: Existing Conditions presents a comprehensive analysis of existing conditions (2003) with respect to demography, land use and zoning, traffic and transportation, parking, pedestrian and bicycle movement, transit, accidents and goods movement.  Problems and issues within the area of study are also identified.

This Technical Memorandum is a draft.  Comments can be forwarded to Lise Dorestant (ldorest@planning.nyc.gov) and Alan Ripps (aripps@planning.nyc.gov). You can also mail your comments to the New York City Department of City Planning, Transportation Division, 2 Lafayette Street, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10007.

The next phases of the study will analyze future conditions and recommend improvement measures designed to safely accommodate future traffic and transportation needs.
