Enhanced Pedestrian Environment
Key to the success of the Downtown Brooklyn Plan is enhancing the pedestrian streetscape by improving safety and by fostering connections between the Downtown Brooklyn commercial core and the surrounding residential communities. Flatbush Avenue would be a gateway and a ‘seam’ tying both sides of the avenue together, rather than its current function as an eyesore and a divider. Signage throughout Downtown Brooklyn would be upgraded through new zoning regulations that limit size, location and illumination.
