Description:

Abstract:

The New York City tax block base map is part of the Department of City Planning's ongoing COGIS project. The tax blocks in conjuction with the tax lots provide a schematic overview of New York City's tax geography. All tax blocks are provided in "Water Areas Included" (original) and "Clipped to Shoreline" versions. The shoreline is defined using NYCmap planimetric features. The tax blocks are available in MapInfo .TAB and ESRI Shapefile formats, and are distributed as part of the NYC Department of City Planning COGIS products.

Purpose:

The tax blocks in conjunction with the tax lots provide a useful schematic representation of New York City's tax geography. These data are updated on an annual basis and used for numerous projects throughout the city, both public and private, and are integral in providing and reviewing city services.
