| Commissioner Burden joined Hong Kong Secretary for Development Carrie Lam in a Skyscraper Museum sponsored lecture event, "Hong Kong/New York: Vertical Density, Sustainable Solutions". Commissioner Burden and Ms. Lam will engage in a dialogue regarding the shared experiences and lessons of planning for these two global cities. |

| Commissioner Burden joined EDC President Seth Pinsky in addressing the members of the New York Building Congress at their breakfast highlighting the Congress' annual construction outlook report. Responding to the Congress' concerns regarding New York's economic outlook, Commissioner Burden reaffirmed the Department's commitment to rezoning to position NYC for the future with jobs and housing for a growing population. |

Population Director Joseph Salvo testifies before U.S. Senate |
| City Planning's Population Director Joseph Salvo testified before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, and Federal Services and International Security (Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs) regarding issues affecting undercount in the 2010 Census. Director Salvo emphasized the critical need for implementing a census strategy that can accurately count difficult to identify housing units, particularly in multifamily apartment buildings found in urban areas. He stressed the need for genuine partnership between the Census Bureau and local governments as both work to ensure a high quality enumeration that counts all Americans. |

Commissioner Burden inducted into American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) |
| Commissioner Burden was inducted into the membership of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) College of Fellows in Las Vegas, Nevada, in conjunction with the American Planning Association's 100th National Planning Conference. Election to the Fellowship is granted to planners who have been longtime members of AICP and have demonstrated excellence in professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, community service, leadership, and communication. Commissioner Burden was elected in the Public/Community Service & Leadership Category, for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the profession and principles of planning that have been inspiring at the national and local levels. Of more than 15,500 practicing urban and rural planners in North America and elsewhere with AICP certification, only 400 have attained the status of Fellow. |

Commissioner Burden receives award from Partners for Livable Communities |
| Commissioner Burden was presented with the Entrepreneurial American Leadership Award for her innovative leadership in promoting livable spaces and high architectural standards as the City Planning Commissioner of New York City. This award was presented by the Washington, D.C.-based Partners for Livable Communities at its "Celebration of Vision and Community Spirit." Also receiving awards were Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, for her lifelong commitment to historical preservation and cultural development in New York City, Dr. Marilyn Perry for her work around the world in preserving heritage and calling attention to Earth's diverse cultures, Robb Nansel and Jason Kulbel for their innovative and collaborative development of a musical and artistic anchor to a formerly depressed neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska, and Gordon Binder with the Founders Award for Civic Leadership for his nearly 40 years of service promoting environmental issues with institutions such as the EPA and World Wildlife Fund. |

Travel and Leisure names Commissioner Burden Design Champion |
Commissioner Burden was honored as Travel & Leisure's 2008 'Design Champion'. A panel of seven judges comprised of architects, museum directors, industrial and fashion designers, recognized the Commissioner for her dedication to ambitious, innovative architecture and for making her mark on the fabric of the entire city, from the redevelopment of Coney Island to the High Line.

Commissioner Burden receives Mariette Tree public service award |
| Commissioner Burden Received the Marietta Tree Award for Public Service from the Citizen's Committee for New York City. The Citizen's Committee was founded in 1975 to encourage ordinary New Yorkers to volunteer to staff government positions left vacant by the fiscal crisis, and continues to promote volunteerism and civic action through the provision of small grants, training, and hands-on technical assistance to hundreds of volunteer-based and grassroots organizations in New York City. Commissioner Burden joined other awardees Karen Washington, Co-Founder of Familia Verde and recipient of the Osborn Elliot Award for Community Service; Jack O'Kelley III, Principal, Katzenbach partners, and recipient of the Arthur Ross award for Young Philanthropists; Bill Cunningham, Photographer, Style Section for the New York Times and recipient of the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Award for Public Service; Karen Cohen, Founder and President of the Randall's Island Sports Foundation and recipient of the Brooke Russell Astor Award for Philanthropy; and Peter Gelb, General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera and recipient of the New Yorker for New York Award. |
